Over 7,000 years ago during the Neolithic Revolution, developments started to occur in both social and economical ways. The long lasting debate on whether the changes that took place during this time were the greatest advancements in human history or the worst mistake that humans have ever made is still going on today.
I believe that the inventions and developments that occurred during the Neolithic Revolution had a positive effect in human history. This blog will discuss the positive effects on the advancements in agriculture, which spread beyond the field.

During the Neolithic Revolution, people learned how to sow and harvest crops. This development began in the Fertile Crescent where the land had the right balance of water, soil, and weather. The people of this region soon learned to plant seeds from one crop in order to produce another and to keep the farming cycle going. The hunter-gatherers soon developed the plow, which helped expedite the crop growing process and created an abundance of wild grains accessible to the people. The result of the advancements in agriculture led to the increase in population because people became healthier and stronger from the food. With the newly large population, people were able to specialize in different areas of society and not just agriculture. Many people specialized in crafts and were one of the first people to work with metal, which soon became the center of wealth in about 4,000 B.C.E. With people specializing in different areas, it allowed opportunity for advancements in other areas and fields of technology, as well as establishing written language, which promoted advanced education and communication.
The advanced agriculture that developed in the Fertile Crescent resulted in permanent settlements. These small settlements grew into large populous cities and ultimately city-states. In order to maintain organization while trading the goods produced on the land, the city-states developed a social hierarchy with supreme leaders and kings controlling most of the power creating a monarchy, which is still used today in some countries. Without the Neolithic Revolution, countries would not be what it is today without the agricultural advancements which influenced education, communication, health, and permanent settlements.

  1. Good job. You raise some great points in your post. I'd love to see you take on the question a little more directly. The prompt was encouraging you to make your own argument about your interpretation of the Neolithic. Do you see how if you could start with a strong thesis, the rest of your post can become fantastic evidence to support or refute specific ideas? I really want to see YOUR ideas emerge in this blog and in this class!
